La retrospettiva di Ala Younis alla NYU Abu Dhabi Art Gallery esplora immaginari e architettura
La mostra di metà carriera di Ala Younis, intitolata "Passato di un universo temporale", si è tenuta alla NYU Abu Dhabi Art Gallery dal 23 settembre 2025 al 18 gennaio 2026. Curata da Maya Allison, l'esposizione ha presentato quasi vent'anni di creazioni multimediali di Younis, come mosaici ispirati agli anni '70 di strutture metaboliste a Dubai, opere giovanili che raffigurano Amman e "Tin Soldiers" (2010-12), che includeva figure metalliche dipinte a mano rappresentanti nove eserciti mediorientali. Inoltre, "Enactment" (2017) ha approfondito le radici della performance art mediorientale. La serie "Friendship Garden" (2023-24) ha ricostruito giardini, mentre "Plan for Greater Baghdad" (2015-18) si è concentrata sui contributi di donne trascurate nell'architettura moderna irachena. La mostra ha evidenziato le complessità della costruzione nazionale non lineare, intrecciando narrative politiche, cultura pop e identità regionali. John Varghese ha documentato l'evento attraverso la fotografia.
