Akron Art Museum's Historic 1899 Building to Reopen After $12.5M Renovation

On September 23, 2026, the Akron Art Museum will unveil its historic 1899 Building after a significant $12.5 million renovation. This revamped facility will be known as the John S. and James L. Knight Foundation Building, honoring the foundation's enduring contributions. Construction commenced in July 2025 and represents one of the most substantial updates to the museum's downtown site since its expansion in 2007. The upgrade introduces 2,152 square feet of new gallery space, a 957-square-foot classroom, and enhanced areas for video, digital, and time-based art, along with improved amenities for visitors.
