Aki Sasamoto's first European solo show opens at Pirelli HangarBicocca

Pirelli HangarBicocca in Milan presents 'XYZ', the first European solo exhibition of Japanese artist Aki Sasamoto, opening September 17, 2026. Curated by Roberta Tenconi with Tatiana Palenzona, the show runs through January 17, 2027. Sasamoto (b. 1980, Yokohama) lives and works in New York, blending sculpture, installation, and performance with influences from dance, mathematics, psychology, and behavioral sciences. The exhibition features works such as 'Sounding Lines' (2024), 'catch or be caught' (2025), 'Delicate Cycle' (2016), and 'Secrets of My Mother's Child' (2009), exploring human relationships, memory, and social norms through everyday objects and mathematical language. A public program includes performances and a conversation with Massimo Bernardi, director of MUSE Trento, on October 22. A new monograph accompanies the show.
