AKAA (Also Known as Africa), Paris's first African art fair, opens on November 11, 2016, at Carreau du Temple, near the Bataclan. Originally scheduled for 2015 during Paris Photo, it was cancelled after the November 2015 terrorist attacks, leading to artistic director Timothée Chaillou's resignation. The fair features 29 exhibitors from 11 countries, including a strong French contingent, and is directed by Victoria Mann with curatorial support from Salimata Diop. It focuses on art and design from Africa and its diaspora. The fair follows the model of 1:54, which launched in London during Frieze Art Week and expanded to New York. 1:54 features around twenty galleries, including international names like In Situ\Fabienne Leclerc, Anne de Villepoix, Goodman Gallery, and Apalazzo. AKAA runs from November 11 to 13 at 4 Rue Eugène Spuller, 75003 Paris.
