Airbnb's Italian Villages project opens artist house in Sambuca di Sicilia

architecture-design · 2026-05-04

Airbnb has inaugurated Casa Panitteri, the second artist house in its Italian Villages project, located in Sambuca di Sicilia, Agrigento. Designed by EligoStudio in collaboration with artist Edoardo Piermattei and curated by Federica Sala, the house blends Arab and European influences using local materials. The project, launched last year with support from ANCI and MiBACT, previously featured interventions by Francesco Simeti in Civita di Bagnoregio and Lorenzo Vitturi in Civitacampomarano. The house accommodates two guests and is adjacent to the Museo Archeologico di Palazzo Pannitteri. A corridor references local archaeological finds, while elements like marble floors and wrought iron echo the museum. The house is bookable on Airbnb, which already lists over 44,000 properties in Sicily. A third artist house in Lavenone (Brescia), designed by illustrator Olimpia Zagnoli, will be presented in the coming weeks.
