Airbnb offers night in Juliet's house for Valentine's Day in Verona
Airbnb has launched a contest to spend a night in the house said to belong to the Capulet family in Verona, Italy. The prize includes sleeping in the bed used in Franco Zeffirelli's film, a dinner by chef Giancarlo Perbellini, and a private butler. Other Valentine's Day activities include a photography tour of romantic Verona sites like the Arena, Castelvecchio, Piazza Erbe, and Piazza Dante, and a chance to join the Club di Giulietta volunteers who reply to love letters. The Casa di Giulietta, a medieval palace on via Cappello, underwent imaginative restorations in the 1940s inspired by a 1936 American film. Its balcony was assembled from 14th-century marble fragments. Historical records mention Montecchi and Cappelletti families involved in feuds, possibly inspiring Shakespeare's tragedy. Inside, frescoes from the 14th to 16th centuries, a library, and archive are accessible. Since 2015, the balcony is used for Romeo and Juliet performances by Teatro Nuovo di Verona. In 2014, the Lions Club Verona placed a bronze statue copy by Nereo Costantini in the courtyard to preserve the original from 1969.
