Aion V: Chinese EV with Milanese Design Influence Launches in UK

The Aion V, a new all-electric mid-size crossover SUV from Chinese automaker Aion, has been launched in the UK market. Aion is part of the GAC Group, which has manufacturing experience dating back to 1948 in Guangzhou. The company delayed its European entry to avoid the missteps of other Chinese exporters, such as over-optimistic sales targets and service shortfalls. The V is priced from £36,450 and comes with an eight-year warranty. Its exterior design has hints of the Citroën C5 Aircross, but with a more horizontal bonnet and utilitarian roof rails. The interior is luxurious, with quilted leather upholstery and a Premium Pack (£1,495) that includes a second-row tray table, massage seats, and a cool/hot box that can freeze items. The car has a 75.3kWh battery providing a 317-mile range. The rear seats offer generous space, and the boot capacity ranges from 500 to 1638 litres. The infotainment system includes a 14.6-inch screen with Apple CarPlay, though switching between interfaces can be fiddly. On the road, the V handles competently, absorbing bumps well. Aion's design studio in Milan, known for its fashion and design focus, is expected to influence future models, potentially giving the brand a distinct European appeal.
