AIGA's 50 Books – 50 Covers 2020: Best Book and Cover Design
The American Institute of Graphic Arts (AIGA) has announced the winners of its 50 Books – 50 Covers competition for 2020. Since 1923, the annual contest has recognized excellence in book and cover design. This year, nearly 800 entries from 32 countries were reviewed by a jury comprising graphic designer and AIGA president Michael Bierut, graphic designer Hilary Greenbaum, National Book Foundation director Lisa Lucas, and designer and artist Silas Munro. The jurors evaluated integrated design approaches, including concept, innovation, and visual elements such as typography, illustration, and information design. The 50 winning books, all published in 2019, will be added to the permanent collection of the AIGA Design Archives and the Rare Book and Manuscript Library at Columbia University. "In an increasingly digital world where many of us are isolated, a well-designed book offers the opportunity to share knowledge and create shared experiences," said Michael Bierut. Notable winners include Italian publisher Corraini Edizioni with its book "Case in vendita."
