Aichi Triennale 2025 reveals 60-artist lineup exploring geological time
The Aichi Triennale 2025 has unveiled its complete roster of 60 participating artists. Directed by Hoor Al Qasimi, President and Director of the Sharjah Art Foundation, the exhibition draws its title from Syrian poet Adonis's 1970 work 'A Time Between Ashes and Roses'. It will investigate geological perspectives on time, moving beyond immediate national or territorial viewpoints. The artist list includes Basel Abbas and Ruanne Abou-Rahme, John Akomfrah, Priyageetha Dia, Simone Fattal, Simone Leigh, Wangechi Mutu, Michael Rakowitz, Sugimoto Hiroshi, Adrián Villar Rojas, and Robert Zhao Renhui. Al Qasimi stated that the exhibition will probe complex human-environment relationships through diverse artistic practices, viewing art as deeply connected to societal challenges and a potential source of insights for contemporary crises. Her research visits to the host cities of Nagoya and Seto City inspired the theme, particularly Seto City's abundant natural resources like clay that are integral to residents' daily lives. The triennial will be open to the public from September 13 through November 30, 2025.
