Ai Weiwei installs 258 inflatable migrants at Prague National Gallery

Ai Weiwei's installation 'Law of the Journey' opens March 17, 2018 at the National Gallery in Prague, featuring 258 inflatable plastic figures of faceless migrants arranged over 70 meters. The work continues the artist's focus on the migrant crisis, previously seen at Vienna's Belvedere Park (life vests), Berlin's Konzerthaus (life vests on columns), and Florence's Palazzo Strozzi (rubber boats). The piece responds to Austria's proposal to cut EU subsidies to member states refusing refugee transfers, targeting the Czech Republic's reluctance to accept refugees from Italy and Greece. The exhibition runs until July 1, 2018.
