A recent investigation examining more than 150,000 multimodal posts from X's Community Notes indicates that content generated by AI tends to go viral disproportionately, primarily fueled by passive interactions rather than active discussions. The study introduces CONVEX, a comprehensive dataset that monitors miscaptioned, altered, and AI-created visual content alongside relevant notes and engagement statistics. Although AI-generated misinformation is reported more slowly at first, it quickly gains community agreement once identified. The analysis of specialized detectors and vision-language models reveals a steady decline in their effectiveness as generative AI evolves.
