AI detection startup Pangram raises $9M to combat AI slop

Pangram, an AI detection startup based in New York, has secured $9 million in funding, spearheaded by Menlo Ventures, with contributions from Haystack, ScOp, Script Capital, and Cadenza. The company has unveiled Pangram 4, an AI text detection model boasting over 99% accuracy in recognizing AI-generated and mixed content, alongside the research preview of Pangram Image. Established two years ago by Max Spero and Bradley Emi, Pangram focuses on tackling AI-generated content, particularly in disinformation efforts. Its detection system is powered by a large machine learning model trained on millions of human-generated documents. Pangram provides a subscription service at $20 per month, a Chrome extension, and an API, with Substack utilizing its technology. Competitors include Winston AI and GPTZero, though testing has yielded varied accuracy results.
