AI Brings Dreams to Life in Padua Installation

exhibition · 2026-04-27

The multidisciplinary studio fuse* has created 'Onirica ()', an audiovisual installation that uses generative artificial intelligence to visualize dreams. Presented at the Fondazione Alberto Peruzzo in Padua, the work is free and open until October 15. It draws on approximately 800 dreams selected from over 28,000 collected by two 'Dream Banks' at the University of Bologna and the University of California, Santa Cruz. Using machine learning algorithms that generate images from text, the installation produces a continuous black-and-white stream of dream imagery on a monolithic screen. fuse* aims to spark conversation about human-machine relationships and ethical implications. Founded in 2007 by Luca Camellini and Mattia Carretti, fuse* explores new technologies through multimedia installations and performances.
