Ahmet Öğüt's First Greek Solo Show Critiques Precarious Art Labour

exhibition · 2026-04-22

State of Concept in Athens presents Ahmet Öğüt's first solo exhibition in Greece, 'Labour after Pay, Love before Work – An Artworkers VIP Lounge', opening June 23 at 19:00 with a performance 'Fair Wage for a Made Up Job' at 19:30. The show features works never before displayed in Greece, including individual, collective, and collaborative pieces. A newly commissioned installation recreates a VIP Lounge for precarious cultural workers, commenting on freelance art workers' conditions in Greece and beyond, where many work for free or on zero-hour contracts. The exhibition coincides with ongoing discussions in the Greek art scene about forming a union and recognizing contemporary art work in the tax system. Previous works are activated within the installation, and other cultural workers will be hosted to present their work. A film program runs in the VIP Lounge in July and September.
