Agrocité Gagarine Truillot: Ivry-sur-Seine's Agricultural Urbanism

The Agrocité Gagarine Truillot initiative, located in Ivry-sur-Seine close to Paris, spans 12 hectares and focuses on mixed-use development that incorporates urban farming. Launched in 2017 after securing a competition victory from EPA ORSA and the municipality, it aims to replace the aging Cité Gagarine social housing (constructed in 1961, plagued by asbestos) with 145,600 m² of residential units, offices, retail spaces, and community areas. Spearheaded by Archikubik (Marc Chalamanch, Carmen Santana, Christophe Marret), the project prioritizes collaboration with local residents. It designates 2.6 hectares for agricultural use, with 70% of rooftops dedicated to farming. Utilizing circular economy strategies, it recycles 30,000 tonnes of materials. Featuring innovations like geothermal heating and greywater systems, the project, which honors cultural heritage, is anticipated to finish by 2032, with some structures already completed.
