Agostino Iacurci transforms Milan tower into final installation before demolition

exhibition · 2026-04-27

During Milan Design Week, the Torre Arrighetti in Largo Treves is being used for the last time as an art installation before its demolition. The nine-story tower, designed by architect Arrigo Arrighetti (1922–1989) and inaugurated in 1955, once housed municipal offices. It was purchased in 2021 by the Stella Re group for €52 million and will be replaced by a luxury residential building. The glo™ for art initiative, founded by an e-cigarette company, commissioned artist Agostino Iacurci (born 1986 in Foggia) to create "Dry Days, Tropical Nights," a facade and interior installation visible until April 23. The work draws on climate scientists' projections of Italy's future under climate change, alternating desert and tropical motifs with neon cacti and palms. The tower, built on the site of Bocconi University's first campus (1902–1941), opens to the public for the first time, with free entry and events including architecture talks with Iacurci, Cristiano Seganfreddo, and Domitilla Dardi, a workshop with Toilet Paper, and mixology with bartender Flavio Angiolillo. glo™ for art previously staged "Mare a Milano" in Darsena in autumn 2022, where Nico Vascellari's "Falena" was donated to Triennale Milano and MAXXI Rome.
