Agostino Arrivabene's 'Oro del vespro' at Studio 2046 in Treviglio
At Palazzo Bacchetta in Treviglio, Studio 2046—founded by designer Daniele Daminelli in 2017—hosts 'Oro del vespro', an exhibition of works by Agostino Arrivabene (born 1967 in Rivolta d’Adda). The show merges painting, living space, and design. In the corridor, Sub-dolo (2015) presents a capriccio combining two goat figures (one black from Sicily, one white from Valle d’Aosta) into a taxidermy with eight eyes, referencing medieval iconography of Beelzebub and the coincidentia oppositorum. Next, an oil-on-linen from 2015 depicts a hypospadic hermaphrodite reclining in twilight: Percy Shelley rendered as a rhizome sprouting acanthus spikes, titled Il rizoma di Augustus Welby Northmore Pugin, linking the Victorian architect and Gothic Revival founder to Romanticism. Daminelli created furniture inspired by Arrivabene’s floral world, including a circular table with marquetry and lacquer using Renaissance techniques. The final room features Erotomachia infera, a large canvas (3 x 2 meters) painted with four colors, part of Arrivabene’s ongoing project to illustrate Dante’s Divine Comedy. The work depicts a dense cloud of suffering bodies illuminated by leaden light, referencing Canto V of Inferno, with Paolo and Francesca floating in opaline light as instruments of salvation.
