Agnieszka Topolska's 'Call It Fate, Call It Karma' at Galeria Skala, Poznań

Galeria Skala in Poznań, Poland, presented Agnieszka Topolska's exhibition 'Call It Fate, Call It Karma' from June 12 to June 29, 2026. The show featured two glass cloches, cast wall reliefs, and objects inspired by consumer packaging, with curatorial support from Daniel Koniusz and Jakub Żwirełło. Topolska works with plaster, wax, and silicone, materials that retain traces of their manipulation. A crushed Evian water bottle was displayed under a glass cloche on four polished rods, evoking other brands like Lidl's Saguaro and Fiji. The exhibition referenced Tiqqun's 'Preliminary Materials for a Theory of the Young-Girl' (1999), using the Young-Girl as a metaphor for consumer subjectivity. Sylvia Plath's 'The Bell Jar' inspired the cloches, with its imagery of a fig tree representing impossible choices. The curatorial note by Lena Peplińska accompanied the show. Sound was by Robert Śliwka and Topolska, with technical support from Nebula Puff [C] and Daniel Dąbrowski. The exhibition's title comes from The Strokes' song 'Call It Fate, Call It Karma'. Topolska's practice examines how matter records gestures of crushing and deformation, resisting optimization and profit-oriented labor. The show also referenced hauntological figures Julian Casablancas (2013) and Lana Del Rey (2014).
