Agnieszka Polska's 'Cuckoo' at Kasia Michalski Gallery, Warsaw

The Kasia Michalski Gallery in Warsaw presents 'Cuckoo', a solo exhibition by Polish artist Agnieszka Polska (born 1985, Lublin). The show features a selection of recent works, including prints and a video. In the first section, prints such as 'Bitter Tears of Ayn Rand' (2017), a two-episode study of the Russian-born American writer and philosopher, and 'Leisure Time of Firearm' (2016), which depicts a gun barrel aimed at an eye, are displayed. Polska's work often explores ambiguous accessibility, presenting intriguing yet emotionally detached pieces. The second section is dedicated to the video 'My Little Planet' (2016), exhibited for the first time in Poland. The video allegorically depicts a society where time is measured by the movement of everyday objects—like a cigarette filter, a bottle cap, and a used bandage—around the earth. The work creates a dreamlike, timeless atmosphere, leaving the viewer in a bizarre world without memory or future, pervaded by a subtle and threatening state of emergency. Polska, who studied graphics and photography at the Academy of Fine Arts in Krakow, was nominated for the prestigious Preis der Nationalgalerie 2017 just days before the exhibition.
