In 1982, Agnes Denes created 'Wheatfield – A Confrontation,' which saw nearly a hectare of wheat cultivated on the Battery Park Landfill, producing over 450kg of grain distributed across 28 cities. Initially focused on issues of ecological mismanagement, the piece has recently resurfaced in feminist dialogues, often misread as a pastoral scene. New interpretations include a 2009 iteration in London, a 2015 version in Milan, and 'Honoring Wheatfield – A Confrontation' (2024) at Art Basel.
