Afterall Writer-in-Residence Program: Essays, Interviews, and Reviews

Afterall's Writer-in-Residence program supports writers from under-represented groups over six months, producing up to three pieces published on their website. Adiva Lawrence's essay 'Mapping Debris' dialogues with artists Nguyen Smith and Minia Biabiany on Caribbean epistemologies and territory. Anahita Delcorde reviews Basel Abbas and Ruanne Abou-Rahme's web-based work 'Postscript: after everything is extracted,' linking it to Palestinian dispossession during the pandemic. Delcorde also interviews Sophia Al-Maria on Gulf Futurism and writing, and writes a two-part essay on Maria Eichhorn's 2016 Chisenhale Gallery exhibition, examining time and labor in art. Priya Jay reflects on being a writer in residence during the 2021 lockdown.
