Afterall Symposium Explores Richard Hamilton and Victor Pasmore's Display Practices
The 'Artist as Curator' symposium hosted by Afterall includes a presentation by Elena Crippa titled 'Display as Practice: Richard Hamilton, Victor Pasmore and their Peers.' In her talk, she explores their intricate 1957 exhibition, emphasizing the need to comprehend Hamilton and Pasmore's earlier approaches to exhibition design and their creative spatial utilization. Crippa points out Hamilton's works 'Growth and Form' (1951) and 'Man Machine and Motion' (1955), alongside Pasmore's impact on British abstract art during the early 1950s. A London-based curator and doctoral candidate at the London Consortium, Crippa is joined by Malaysia-based artist Sharon Chin, who will present 'Creatures on the Move (In the Death of the Night)' (2022), and the two-part symposium 'Precarious Solidarities: Artists for Democracy (1974–77)' scheduled for February 2, 2023.
