Afterall's Exhibition Histories Volume on 'Magiciens de la Terre' 1989
Afterall Books has just launched the fourth edition of its Exhibition Histories series, titled 'Making Art Global (Part 2): 'Magiciens de la Terre' 1989.' This book explores the groundbreaking exhibition that took place in Paris in 1989, featuring more than a hundred artists from the 'West' and other regions, which aimed to challenge traditional Western art views. It includes a main essay by Lucy Steeds and features insights from Pablo Lafuente and Jean-Marc Poinsot. Additionally, it offers unpublished texts from curator Jean-Hubert Martin and Gayatri Chakravorty Spivak, along with artist responses and archival documents. The volume also reconstructs the exhibition’s layout through photos and floor plans and is a companion piece to the first part released earlier. Currently, it’s out of stock.
