Lanciata nell'ottobre 2010, la serie Exhibition Histories di Afterall indaga l'intersezione tra arte e impegno pubblico attraverso vari mezzi come ricerca, pubblicazioni, simposi e discussioni. Mira a mettere in luce voci diverse e punti di vista critici, utilizzando risorse archivistiche per influenzare le pratiche artistiche attuali e future. Pubblicazioni recenti degne di nota includono "How to Pin Down Smoke: ruangrupa since 2000" (agosto 2025), "Precarious Solidarities: Artists for Democracy 1974–77" (ottobre 2023), "Reshaping the Field: Arts of the African Diasporas on Display" (settembre 2022) e "Art and its Worlds: Exhibitions, Institutions and Art Becoming Public" (settembre 2021). La serie collabora con Asia Art Archive, il Center for Curatorial Studies del Bard College, il documenta Institut e la Faculty of Fine, Applied and Performing Arts dell'Università di Göteborg. La ricerca di questa serie supporta il programma MRes Art: Exhibition Studies presso il Central Saint Martins. Il team editoriale include Wing Chan, Arianna Mercado e David Morris, con curatori della serie come Lauren Cornell, Tom Eccles e Charles Esche. La distribuzione in Europa è gestita da Koenig Books, mentre Distributed Art Publishers gestisce la distribuzione al di fuori dell'Europa.
