Afterall Publishes Book on Lucy Lippard's Numbers Shows 1969–74
Afterall Books has published 'From Conceptualism to Feminism: Lucy Lippard’s Numbers Shows 1969–74', the third installment in its Exhibition Histories series. This book explores four exhibitions curated by Lippard from 1969 to 1974, each named after the population of the respective host city: '557,087' (Seattle), '955,000' (Vancouver), '2,972,453' (Buenos Aires), and 'c.7,500' (Valencia, California, which later toured the US and London). It details Lippard's evolution from critic to curator and her increasing involvement in political and feminist issues. The volume includes a primary essay by Cornelia Butler, contributions from Pip Day and Sabeth Buchmann, interviews with Lippard and Seth Siegelaub, and texts by Peter Plagens, Griselda Pollock, and Caroline Tisdall. Published in 2012 in collaboration with the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna, Bard College's Center for Curatorial Studies, and Van Abbemuseum, this title is currently out of stock.
