institutional · 2026-04-22

Afterall has unveiled a video featuring the inaugural discussion in its Exhibition Histories series, which took place on January 24, 2013, with curator Ute Meta Bauer conversing with Iwona Blazwick. Bauer highlighted three exhibitions: '?' from the 'NowHere' series at Louisiana Museum of Modern Art, Humlebæk (1996), 'Architectures of Discourse' at Fundació Antoni Tàpies, Barcelona (2001), and 'The Future Archive' at n.b.k. Berlin (2012). This series is a joint effort with Whitechapel Gallery, London, as part of the Exhibition Histories research initiative created by Afterall in collaboration with the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna, Center for Curatorial Studies at Bard College, and Van Abbemuseum. Additionally, the page notes upcoming talks, including Sharon Chin's 'Creatures on the Move' (2022) on January 31, 2024, and Estefanía Peñafiel Loaiza discussing Gayatri Spivak's 'Can the Subaltern Speak?' on April 11, 2023. There is also a two-part symposium titled 'Precarious Solidarities: Artists for Democracy (1974–77)' scheduled for February 2, 2023, organized by Afterall Exhibition Histories in partnership with Bard College, Asia Art Archive, and University of Gothenburg, with support from the Paul Mellon Centre for Studies in British Art.
