Afterall Journal Marks Tenth Anniversary with Issue 20

In 2009, Issue 20 marked the tenth anniversary of Afterall journal. Founded in the late 1990s by Charles Esche and Mark Lewis at Central Saint Martins College of Art & Design, the journal sought to explore artworks within socio-political frameworks. The inaugural edition, known as Issue 0, was released in early 1999 and showcased artists such as Fiona Banner, Pavel Büchler, Jeremy Deller, Pierre Huyghe, and Superflex. In 2002, Afterall partnered with CalArts, bringing Thomas Lawson on board as co-editor. MuHKA joined the collaboration in 2007, allowing for a third issue each year. The current Issue 20 features contributions from Sandi Hilal, Alessandro Petti, Eyal Weizman, among others, with Esche's foreword contemplating the richness of contemporary art and a forthcoming paradigm shift.
