Afterall Journal Expands with New Editors and US Base

Afterall Journal Issue 6 marks a major expansion, with Charles Esche and Thomas Lawson joining as joint editors and a new base in Los Angeles. The journal aims to bridge Anglo-Saxon and continental European perspectives on art and society, testing ideas of global sameness against transatlantic differences. Afterall International is launched as a portal for research into institutional experimentation, partnering with Central Saint Martins College of Art and Design, California Institute of the Arts, and European museums. The initiative will investigate recent art history to provide academic memory for current experiments. This issue features Helen Levitt, Chantal Akerman, Laylah Ali, Allen Ruppersberg, and Sean Snyder, emphasizing documentary narrative and personal histories. The editors invite readers to find connections across texts and images, aiming to foster inter-regional dialogue as an antidote to US cultural globalism and essentialist opposition.
