Afterall Issue 47 Launch: Decolonial Museology and Pacific Indigenous Voices

On May 12, 2019, the 47th edition of Afterall journal, titled 'Situated Practices and Conditioned Positions', was released at Ocean Space in Venice, thanks to TBA21-Academy. The event featured a conversation between writer Michael A. Mel and editor Ute Meta Bauer, focusing on climate change strategies and decolonial methods that highlight the role of indigenous Pacific communities in museums. They highlighted a collaboration between the Australian Museum and the Asaro mudmen from Papua New Guinea's Komunive village. Michael, who belongs to the Mogei tribe and has a PhD from Flinders University, is currently the manager of the Pacific and international collection at the Australian Museum. Ute is the Founding Director of NTU CCA Singapore and has an extensive academic background. To celebrate the launch, Mel's article was made available online for free.
