Afterall hosts talk on APTART anti-shows with Alekseev, Zakharov, Tupitsyn
On September 23, 2023, Afterall held the fourteenth talk in its Exhibition Histories series, featuring artists Nikita Alekseev and Vadim Zakharov alongside scholar Margarita Tupitsyn. They discussed the APTART 'anti-shows' that occurred covertly in Moscow from 1982 to 1984, challenging Soviet authorities and rethinking exhibition-making in the absence of a public sphere. The event coincided with the latest Exhibition Histories book and was a collaboration with Whitechapel Gallery, London. The series is developed by Afterall and published with the Center for Curatorial Studies, Bard College. A video of the talk is available online.
