Afterall ArtSchool Q&A: Sylwia Serafinowicz on Elizabeth Catlett's 'Students Aspire'
Afterall ArtSchool recently organized a Q&A session featuring writer and curator Sylwia Serafinowicz, who delved into Elizabeth Catlett's 1977 piece 'Students Aspire,' crafted for the campus of Howard University. Alongside co-facilitators Alison Green, Vanessa Spiridellis, and Adeena Mey, Serafinowicz examined the themes present in the artwork. This event was part of Afterall's continuous series that tackles the issue of systemic invisibility in the art world. The announcement also highlighted upcoming Afterall ArtSchool events, such as a discussion with Malaysia-based artist Sharon Chin about her 2022 project 'Creatures on the Move (In the Death of the Night),' and a symposium titled 'Precarious Solidarities: Artists for Democracy (1974–77),' organized in collaboration with Bard College's Center for Curatorial Studies, Asia Art Archive, and the University of Gothenburg, with support from the Paul Mellon Centre for Studies in British Art.
