Afterall and Tate Film Reconsider 'Magiciens de la Terre' at 2014 Conference
In April 2014, Afterall and Tate Film hosted a three-day conference at Tate Modern titled 'Magiciens de la Terre Reconsidered', revisiting the landmark 1989 Centre Pompidou exhibition and its original cinema programme. The opening session featured introductions by George Clark, illustrated talks by Lucy Steeds and Jean-Michel Bouhours, and a panel with Bouhours, Steeds, and co-curator Mark Francis, chaired by Elvira Dyangani Ose. The event included screenings and debates programmed with Tate Film. Separately, in October 2018, MASP and Afterall launched a long-term partnership with the seminar 'Art and Decolonisation', featuring speakers such as Bambi Ceuppens, Esther Gabara, Candice Hopkins, and Suely Rolnik.
