Afropunk Photography Exhibition Debuts in Italy at Turin's Jazz:Re:Found Festival

festival-fair · 2026-05-04

The ninth edition of Jazz:Re:Found, a festival exploring contemporary jazz through funk, soul, and electronic music, moves from Vercelli to Turin, running December 7–11, 2016, at venues including Cap 10100, Spazio Dora, and Spazio211. Alongside performances by Tony Allen and GrandMaster John, the Art&Culture section at Circolo dei Lettori features the exhibition 'John Coltrane Saved My Life' curated by Rocco Pandiani and Denis Longhi with contributions from Luca Barcellona and Giordano Poloni. For the first time in Italy, portraits of Afropunk festival attendees by photojournalist Francesca Magnani are on display. The 12th edition of Afropunk took place at Commodore Barry Park in Fort Greene, Brooklyn, drawing inspiration from James Spooner's 2003 documentary 'Afro-Punk' that explored intersections of race, identity, and punk. The festival champions anti-discrimination values, contrasting with the US election discourse. A talk titled 'Stay Black' on December 10 will feature Magnani and Afropunk co-founder Lou Constant-Desportes, who brings the festival to Italy for the first time.
