Afra Al Dhaheri's Restless Circle exhibition at Sharjah Art Foundation explores memory through repetitive gestures
Afra Al Dhaheri's solo exhibition, Restless Circle, at the Sharjah Art Foundation showcases nearly a decade of her work that delves into themes of memory, time, and the transformation of materials through repetitive actions. Curated by May Alqaydi, this display is set in gallery 6, featuring soft green walls that face a ghaf tree. Notable pieces include the 2022 film Conditioning the Knot, where a hand methodically unravels fabric strips, producing mechanical scraping sounds. The 2023 installation Round and Round We Go displays five circular wooden rings with pin-like structures holding threads. The 2025 installation Restless Circle, inspired by bushman grass patterns, is featured both indoors and in three outdoor courtyard installations. Earlier works, such as absence we forget (2015) and To Revisit (2016), explore the theme of fading memory. The exhibition is open until 14 December.
