Afra Al Dhaheri's 'Give Your Weight to the Ground' at Green Art Gallery

Afra Al Dhaheri's exhibition titled 'Give Your Weight to the Ground' is currently on display at Green Art Gallery in Dubai, offering a contemplative environment that emphasizes the theme of 'staying grounded.' This body of work stems from a creative phase that began a year and a half ago. Al Dhaheri, who serves as an assistant professor at Zayed University, critiques the rapid evolution of the UAE's art landscape. Notable pieces include 'More afloat than grounded no. 2' (2023), a nonfunctional wooden spiral staircase adorned with cotton ropes, and 'Don't pull my hair (set of two)' (2023). The exhibition features materials like wood, cotton, and concrete, alongside a sound installation with deep drums and ambient sounds. 'Give your weight to the ground (Glass)' (2023), created during her 2017 MFA at the Rhode Island School of Design, pays homage to Richard Serra. The exhibition is open until 5 January 2024.
