Aesthetica Film Festival and MPB launch 'The Next Shot' initiative for filmmakers to reflect on camera equipment
The Aesthetica Film Festival, in collaboration with camera retailer MPB, has introduced 'MPB: The Next Shot,' encouraging filmmakers to create reflective works regarding their connection to camera gear. Participants are invited to craft short films using archival footage, previous projects, and self-interviews, which will be curated by Aesthetica's editorial team for presentation at the 2025 Aesthetica Film Festival in York, UK, both virtually and in-person. Those chosen will receive a £500 honorarium, two unlimited festival passes, and promotion on Aesthetica and MPB platforms. Applications are due by 8 September 2025. Director Cherie Federico emphasizes the project’s focus on legacy, sustainability, and emotional ties to creative tools, echoing the sentiments of filmmakers like Agnès Varda and Barry Jenkins.
