Aesthetica Art Prize Showcases Diverse Shortlisted Artists Exploring Nature, AI, and Identity

The Aesthetica Art Prize has unveiled its shortlist of contemporary artists, many of whom have achieved international acclaim. Gjert Rognli, hailing from Norway and belonging to the Sami indigenous community, delves into Arctic themes across various artistic mediums. Larry Achiampong, recognized as a BAFTA longlisted nominee (2023) and a Jarman Award nominee (2021), investigates issues of class, gender, and colonialism. Ingrid Weyland's photography captures landscapes from Argentina, Greenland, and Iceland, addressing Anthropocentrism. Margeaux Walter critiques conservation and climate change in Joshua Tree, California. Sophie Dixon uses film and 3D technology to explore memory, focusing on Grace Darling's 1838 rescue. Sigita Silina's poetry reflects on AI's influence. Kriss Munsya confronts racism and colonialism, while Edgar Martins studies suicide notes. Steve Messam creates environmental installations, and Julia Fullerton-Batten’s Contortion series expresses pandemic-related anxiety. Submissions are accepted until 31 August 2024, with a prize of £10,000.
