Adrián Villar Rojas explores cave as metaphor in Aspen Art Museum exhibition

Adrián Villar Rojas: First Gods, Lost Animals will be on display at the Aspen Art Museum from July 2 until April 11, 2027, spanning two levels. This exhibition draws inspiration from the geological and mythological aspects of cave formation, serving as a dual repository: one shaped over millennia by natural processes and the other enriched with human rituals and symbolic expressions. It is based on the idea that humans, limited in their understanding, face a universe that is vastly more intricate than they can comprehend. In response, symbolic constructs—such as gods, art, and mathematics—emerge as tools that help navigate this complexity, with mythology serving as an early framework for interpretation.
