Adrian Paci curates Idromeno exhibition at Albania's new Museo Marubi

The Museo Marubi in Shkodër, Albania, opened in 2016, transforming the former Fototeca Marubi into a national museum. The museum houses 500,000 works by Pietro Marubi, the photographer who introduced modern photography to Albania. The museum was designed by Dutch studio Casanova+Hernandez. Culture Minister Mirela Kumbaro announced a plan to open one major museum per year, including the Archaeological Museum of Durrës, the Museum of Medieval Art in Korçë, and the upcoming 'Casa con le foglie' museum in Tirana dedicated to secret surveillance during the dictatorship. The museum faces financial challenges due to lack of private sponsorship legislation. Director Lucjan Bedeni, aged 29, aims to develop the museum further with support from the German Embassy, the Albanian American Foundation, and Switzerland. He plans a 'Marubi Prize' to internationalize the museum. The current exhibition 'Idromeno's Two Roads,' curated by Albanian artist Adrian Paci, focuses on Kole Idromeno's photography and its relationship to his painting 'Le Due Strade.' Idromeno, a painter, architect, engineer, and photographer, is a key figure in Albanian art. The exhibition runs from January 26, 2017, at the Fototeca Marubi.
