Admiror performance piece premieres in Liverpool, exploring revolutionary sentiment and political futility

opinion-review · 2026-04-20

The performance piece Admiror, Or Revolutionary Sentiments (2024) by Bahar Noorizadeh and Klara Kofen made its debut in the UK at the Invisible Wind Factory in Liverpool. This event was curated by The Otolith Collective and coincided with Noorizadeh's solo exhibition Free To Choose at FACT. Lasting 45 minutes, the work was initially developed at BEK in Oslo and was first commissioned by the Guggenheim Museum in 2023. Featuring Kofen on vocals and Cameron Graham on percussion, Noorizadeh appears as a 3D avatar. Set in a microstate that is both utopian and dystopian, the piece combines spoken word, electronic music, CGI, and narrative, drawing parallels to the Arab Spring and Hong Kong's Umbrella Movement while examining the disconnect between political emotions and their outcomes in the social media era.
