Adina Pintilie's Romanian Pavilion at 2022 Venice Biennale Explores Body Politics

Adina Pintilie's video installation 'You Are Another Me – A Cathedral of the Body' at the Romanian Pavilion of the 59th Venice Biennale presents a nine-screen immersive opera exploring intimacy, sexuality, and bodily norms. The work features nude couples, including friends of the artist who are homosexual, transgender, or disabled, sharing confidences about their bodies and relationships. Curated by Cosmin Costinaș and Viktor Neumann, the installation uses delicate framing, overexposed lighting, and a rich soundtrack to create a dreamlike atmosphere. Pintilie, who won the Golden Bear at Berlinale 2018 for 'Touch Me Not', continues her research on the politics and poetics of intimacy. The Biennale, titled 'The Milk of Dreams' and curated by Cecilia Alemani, emphasizes women artists and minorities, with strong national pavilions. The Romanian Pavilion is highlighted as one of the most intense experiences of the event, running until November 27, 2022.
