Adidas and Someone Somewhere Release Mexico Jersey Embroidered by Puebla Artisans

other · 2026-05-25

Adidas and social enterprise Someone Somewhere collaborated with 150 Indigenous artisans from Puebla, Mexico, to create a limited-edition third jersey for the Mexico men's national soccer team, the first soccer jersey ever embellished by Mexican artisans. The collection includes a t-shirt, dress, pants, shorts, and jacket, co-created with the crafters over 15 months, producing 100,000 embellishments in three workshops in the Naupan community. The pieces feature floral motifs on the Adidas trefoil, Mexico team logo, and signature stripes. Each garment tag includes the crafter's name, place of origin, and a QR code linking to their profile on Someone Somewhere's website. The collection generated over 165,000 hours of work for Indigenous women, according to cofounder Antonio Nuño. The landmark jersey has been entered into the Adidas archive at its headquarters in Herzogenaurach, Germany, alongside historic soccer balls and early shoes. Two artisans, Petra and Catalina, traveled to Germany to see their work archived. The collaboration aims to celebrate traditional embroidery, which Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum has acknowledged was historically looked down upon.
