ADI Design Index 2017 Exhibition Moves to Rome

The ADI Design Index 2017, an annual survey of Italian design, is on view at the Acquario Romano in Rome from October 27 to November 8, 2017, after a Milan showing at the Museo Leonardo Da Vinci (October 10–17). The index features 204 works selected by the Associazione per il Disegno Industriale (ADI) from over 700 proposals, all candidates for the Compasso d'Oro 2018. ADI president Luciano Galimberti described design as 'a work of continuous navigation in an archipelago of references, often lacking communication between them.' The exhibition highlights accessibility and sustainability: the R-30 Daysailer by Alessandro Comuzzi (for Cantiere Navale De Cesari) is a sailboat operable by a wheelchair user; Life by Giulio Gianturco (for Makro) is a modular shower adaptable to family needs and temporary disabilities; Cutlery for All by Giulio Ceppi (for Alessi) was developed with Fondazione Don Gnocchi. Anti-waste solutions include Gelato Popapp by Ifi, which turns unsold fruit into gelato in supermarkets, and MEG by D'Alesio&Santoro, a mini-greenhouse for precision agriculture. In materials, Bonaveri uses low-impact biopolymers for mannequins, and laminates with over 50% recycled content appear in thermoplastic coatings.
