ADI Design Index 2016 presents 279 products competing for Compasso d'Oro
The ADI Design Index 2016, curated by the Permanent Design Observatory, features 279 products selected from over 900 proposals, up from 150 last year. The selection, presented at Palazzo dei Giureconsulti in Milan, includes candidates for the next Compasso d'Oro award, alongside those chosen in 2017. According to ADI President Luciano Galimberti, the Index aims to provide a comprehensive snapshot of Italian design. The increase in proposals is driven by new design fields such as food and business research, while traditional furniture saw a slight decline. Smart products integrating technology or digital interaction are prominent, including Michele De Lucchi's Pangea table, Francisco Gomez Paz's Mesh lighting system for Luceplan, Maurizia Botti's artificial skin Evolution 15 for robotics, and MyMusic coffee (Moak) with QR codes linking to music. Galimberti noted the evolution of the Internet of Things, where objects with artificial intelligence will enhance relationships with users. The exhibition runs until October 11 in Milan, then moves to Rome from October 28 to November 1 at Ex Cartiera Latina. The Milan show is part of Fall Design Week and Design City Milano, creating an October Fuorisalone alongside the Milano Design Film Festival.
