Adelita Husni-Bey's Legislative Theatre for Po Delta Park

artist · 2026-04-27

Artist Adelita Husni-Bey (Milan, 1985) is concluding a participatory project called CAMPOTTO in the Po Delta Park, Italy. The initiative, conceived by social promotion association Basso Profilo and coordinated by Leonardo Delmonte, aims to redefine community agreements for the Campotto station. A public finale will take place on December 4, 2023, at the former church of San Lorenzo in Argenta. Husni-Bey employed Legislative Theatre, a method developed by Augusto Boal, to collectively draft management proposals for the park. The process involved local residents in theatrical workshops addressing conflicts over species control, fines from multiple authorities, difficulties for small hostel operators, and preventive flooding during the May floods. Proposals include creating a citizen consortium to discuss park access. Husni-Bey emphasizes popular education, paying participants and granting them co-ownership of the work. She draws on anarcho-collectivism, pedagogy, and urban development, and is currently reading Amitav Ghosh's "The Nutmeg's Curse." The project collaborates with the Po Delta Park Authority and the Argenta administration.
