Adelita Husni-Bey's 'Frangente/Breaker' Performance at Museo del Novecento

Adelita Husni-Bey presents 'Frangente/Breaker', a three-act performance at Museo del Novecento in Milan on January 17-18, 2018, as part of the Furla Series #01. The work explores participation, authority, borders, and nationalism. In the first act, audiences are divided into six groups and led to specific artworks. The second act features pairs of performers reciting texts on exile, with one Italian interlocutor and one recently immigrated reader. The third act, held in Piazza Duomo, involves 'Action for a Sandbag Brigade' (2011), where a human chain moves 400 sandbags to build temporary walls that collapse. Performers include museum guides, members of Zona 8 Solidale, and migrants from the former CPT Montello. Husni-Bey discusses her recent projects: at the Serpentine, she worked with mothers and caregivers at Portman Early Childhood Center to create a children's book on care and public nursery cuts, using Participatory Action Research. At the 2017 Venice Biennale, she explored collective 'magic'. For 2018, she has a group show at MoMA opening March 12, featuring 'The Council', a photographic work made with teenagers reimagining MoMA's future. She also plans a retrospective in Italy and shows in Mulhouse and Trondheim.
