Adelisa Selimbasic: Gen Z Painter on Body Acceptance and New York Residency
Adelisa Selimbasic (Karlsruhe, 1996) is an Italian-Bosnian emerging artist who graduated from the Academy of Fine Arts of Venice. In 2020 she had her first solo show, 'Non ci incontreremo mai così giovani,' at STATE_OF in Milan, organized by galleria IPERCUBO and curated by Luca Zuccala. In 2023 she won the artist residency at Fridman Gallery in New York, where she currently works in a studio in Beacon, Hudson Valley. Her practice focuses on authentic, non-idealized female bodies, often with obscured faces, to invite multiple interpretations. Key exhibitions include 'Frammenti da lontano' at galleria Mazzoli in Modena (curated by Giuliana Benassi), 'Un segreto per pochi' at ArchiVitali in Bellano, and 'Fu desiderio che infine prende forma in un corpo' at Spazio Adiacenze in Bologna. She cites Renoir's 'In the Meadow' as her first inspiration, which she recently saw at the Metropolitan Museum of Art. Future plans include a solo show at Fridman Gallery opening June 21, 2023, and a project for women artists who are mothers with curator Delfina Pattacini.
