exhibition · 2026-05-05

Adelina von Fürstenberg curates 'AFRICA. Raccontare un mondo' at PAC Milan, focusing on Sub-Saharan Africa's cultural richness. The exhibition, running from June 2017, features four thematic sections: After Independence, Identity Introspection, Generation Africa, and Body and Politics of Distance. Artists include Seydou Keïta, Frédéric Bruly Bouabré, Romuald Hazoumé, Georges Adeagbo, Billie Zangewa, Donna Kukama, Buhlebezwe Siwani, and Anne Historical. Ginevra Bria curated the video and performance section. A site-specific installation is at Edicola Radetzky in Darsena. Von Fürstenberg draws inspiration from the 1989 'Magiciens de la Terre' at Centre Pompidou and documenta 5. She highlights the role of griots as storytellers. The exhibition also includes seating by African contemporary designers. Von Fürstenberg notes the growing market for African art, citing collector Jean Pigozzi and the 1:54 Contemporary African Art Fair. She also announces the first Armenia Triennale, 'STANDART', opening in late July 2017, across Yerevan, Byurakan, Gyumri, Erebuni, Sevan, and Kapan, inspired by René Daumal's 'Mount Analogue'.
