Adelina von Fürstenberg Curates 'Food' at Musée Ariana in Geneva

exhibition · 2026-04-24

The exhibition 'Food' at the Musée Ariana in Geneva, curated by Adelina von Fürstenberg, runs from December 19, 2012 to February 24, 2013. Von Fürstenberg, a pivotal figure in Geneva's contemporary art scene, opened the city's first contemporary art center in 1974 at the university and founded the Association for the Contemporary Art Center in the 1980s. She later directed Le Magasin in Grenoble (1988–1994) and established ART for The World in 1996, following the 'Dialogues de paix' exhibition for the UN's 50th anniversary. The association commissions short films from artists on contemporary themes. The exhibition features films by Jia Zhang-Ke and Idrissa Ouedraogo displayed in the museum's first-floor galleries amid its ceramic and glass collections, though these works struggle for visibility. In the basement, a neutral space hosts historical pieces by Daniel Spoerri, Marcel Broodthaers, Dieter Roth, Cildo Meireles, and Janis Kounellis, using food as material for experiments and narratives. Two recent works by Geneva artists Gianni Motti and John Armleder stand out: Motti's three 'Spauracchio' (scarecrows) introduce a vernacular object into the museum, while Armleder occupies an entire room with Murano glass, paintings, and tableware exploring material and formal possibilities.
