Adéla Janská's Uncanny Female Portraits at Rolando Anselmi

Adéla Janská, a Czech artist, showcases her solo exhibition 'Near Field' at the Rolando Anselmi gallery in Rome. The display features large portraits of doll-like women whose unwavering stares confront the notion of passive objectification. Hailing from Olomouc, Czech Republic, Janská grew up during the last decade of the Soviet Union, influenced by art books. Although she faced challenges gaining admission to art school, she now exhibits on an international scale. This exhibition marks her second at the gallery, following a 2024 residency in Berlin alongside Lexia Hachtmann. The title 'Near Field' references scientific terms related to electromagnetic fields, symbolizing the allure of close relationships. Janská's recent works, characterized by a more muted palette, reflect her personal experiences, particularly the care of her ailing father, which deepened her exploration of intimacy. The exhibition continues until 30 September 2026.
